Hi all. Has anyone every experiences guinea pigs who when they were younger (3-6 months) loved being handled and having cuddles, but as they got bigger disliked being handled. Do some guinea just dislike being stroked and petted? I remember when when they would sit on my lap or lie down on my chest for ages and now some of them seem too hyper and agitated. I have eight in total- two rescue piggies a bonded male (bubba) and female (Flo) who are like being fussed over. I also have another bonded male (kev) and female (renee). Renee dislikes being held. Also I have Uma who was pregnant when I got her, and we have her son (cowan) and daughter (ginger) and this family are a tight unit. I think they all have bonded so well that any intervention from me isn't welcomed anymore :(

Hi, I don't have as many guineas as you, but when one of my two boars died the other one got much more cuddly and used to go to sleep on my shoulder. But since I got him a new companion he is much less cuddly! It sucks for those of us who like to cuddle them, but I think it shows mine are very happy together and it is probably trhe same with yours, especially as you said some of them are a family. Take heart from the fact they are happy although sometimes I wish mine enjoyed cuddles more too!

my girls are like this but once out they dont mind it to much as long as they are next to each other. xx

Yes definitely! Some piggies just don't like being handled. I have one of those and it's just her personality and you have to accept. ;)

Cheers for the info guys. Feeling reassured. I think it might be that the one of the males has three ladies to entertain and me trying to give him cuddles is holding him back from impressing them. I'll never understand boars or men for that matter!
