New Born Pup
Hi all,
My little girl Ginkgo has been having breathing problem since Saturday/Sunday. We noticed that she has lost some weight and was not too interested in eating something hard, but for some reasons she still was very excited in eating some cos lettuce. We brought her to the vet on Monday and the vet said there was crackle sounds on her chest which indicates she does have a respiratory problem.
Long story short, she was put on oxygen for 48h and was given some antibiotic (doxy and meloxicam) and anti-inflammatory, alongside with some liquid shots because she was dehydrated. On day 3, the vet tried to put her out of the oxygen and said she was doing fine, but not completely out of the wood yet. She is brighter than when she was initially brought in but there is still some wheez sound on her chest which means her airway is still narrow (but the vet did say that the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory is working on her) . She is enjoying the veggies that they gave her (celery/asian vegs) and some pellets but she isn't really eating hay. She also produces some droppings.
What makes me concern is, she had a dental problem a year ago. They had to grind her back teeth to be back to its regular size and shape. The vet did say that her back teeth are normal now just by the looks of it but she can't be too sure without an x-ray. I'm just concerned whether her lack of appetite is because of her teeth acting up again or is it because she's been taking meds so she doesn't really have appetite (the doctor did say that it's normal and expected that she doesn't really have an appetite because of her breathing problem and also because of the meds)? The vet wasn't too concerned about her teeth though, she just thought that her lack of appetite is because of she's still under the weather and her meds.
She is still at the vet atm and I'm hoping I can bring her home tomorrow but I don't want to keep wondering of the what ifs when she's back home and still doesn't really have an appetite. But an x-ray is also another few hundred bucks.
Has anyone experienced something similar? How long does it take for a piggy to fully recover from respiratory problem?
