Hello, we had to have one of our pair of female guineas put down yesterday. I am looking for advice on whether we should replace it immediately for the sake of the surviving piggie (she's about 4 or5), and if so.... would you recommend a young guinea (or a pair) or look into rehoming one of a simlilar age. Also would be interested in any tips on how to introduce them.

Personality is key to a successful bond and age really doesn't impact this. If you can get to a reputable rescue this is really best as they will help with piggy dating so you can be sure to come home with a compatible friend. It takes a lot of stress out of the bonding process.

A friend of my sister has an unexpected new born girl piggie (along with a male pair), wondering if they could form a pairing, possibly along with another young female?

Babies can be a good shout as often they look for guidance and don't try to challenge the hierarchy. One thing to be cautious of is your friend separating her from the boars. Boars need to be separated at 3 weeks or 250g whichever comes first as they can mature early if they are larger. If your friend doesn't separate early enough then you can run the risk of ending up with a pregnant piggy to deal with yourself
