Hello
2 of my piggy’s have had reoccurring URIs in the time that I’ve had them. (never at the same time)

Symptoms observed:
melodically “hee haw” breathing
(I have audio of this but don’t know how to post it)
And occasional coughing.

Symptoms not observed:
Crusty eyes, runny nose, weight loss.

Every time it’s happened I freak out and book an appointment with my vet
(it’s hard to get booked in straight away)
then a few days later my pig will be completely fine, and I cancel the appointment.

(This has happened maybe 5 times over the last two and a half years)

I’ve spoken to my vet about this and she said it could be low vitamin C, and suggested I give them those orange flavored tablets.
(Instead of this I give them vitamin C treats)

all the info I’ve read says to see a vet asap because of how dangerous it is, is this the case?

Do I need to freak out next time one of my piggy’s is breathing funny?

Other info:
My piggy’s are in my bed room so they don’t get cold.
when I suspect a URI I give every one extra vitamin C rich food.
The two pigs who show URI symptoms are siblings.
Symptoms only last a few days.
My setup is 4x6 c&c cage with a large hay box.
(Regular cage cleaning + room isn’t dusty)

The could be getting dust in their nose off hay. The coughing sound intermittently for a while and lack of other symptoms could make this a possibility.

We had a piggy that would hoot after rooting around in hay until she sneezed the dust away.

How long does he noise last? Days? Hours?
