Hi everyone,

I've just accepted a job in Suffolk (currently in Leeds), and will be living with my partners parents. I have four female piggies who have been accustomed to life indoors since Jan 2016. Before that they did live outside in hutch accommodation (shed/greenhouse in winter, north Scotland) but since learning more about them, I realise that this was probably not entirely suitable. As I will be living with my partners parents, I don't feel like I should push/insist that the piggies live indoors, but I do have a very DIY minded partner so we could make something, and the following is our most suitable suggestion.

The hutch (link below) is quite big, with an adjoining run. The hutch would be modified to provide more insulation and this would be their day time accommodation. There is a large shed which will be arranged into night time accommodation - this is likely to be my indoor cages with heat pads (plugged into electricity) underneath. The two reasons this shed is not suitable for 24 hours living is that it is not particularly light and also they would not have that much space. Does this sound like a good arrangement? I have a snuggle safe. I am intending to buy self warming fleecy blankets, fleecy tunnels/beds. And of course they would have plenty of hay.

My other query was regarding the suitability of this actual hutch (link below), as we would get it with tanalised green treatment, and they also treat it with a silicone finish. Does anyone know what the silicon finish is for, where it goes, and if it's suitable for piggies?
