Could I have some advice about a swollen toe?

About 2-3 weeks ago, Miki was jumping around and started limping. We presumed he had hurt his foot (RIGHT), so gave him some pain relief and thought it would pass. However, the toe just seemed to balloon up, and wasn’t getting any better.

We took him to a vet, who had a good feel and said there was no obvious breaks. So she gave us a weeks worth of antibiotics and metacam. However, it didn’t get better.

We then went back to an exotics vet, who pricked his toe to see any signs of infection. Thankfully, there didn’t appear to be any pus. As a precaution, she gave us more Metacam and a 10 day course of a different antibiotic. Again, she couldn’t feel any breaks/fractures. However still, it’s MASSIVE with some minor bleeding. He’s not limping anymore, and is acting himself, but the underside of the toe is massive and hard. There doesn’t seem to be any change.

We’ve been cleaning his foot with Hibiscrub daily, and are just finishing up his course of antibiotics. We’re a bit lost with what to do. Any suggestions?

FYI, he did a very similar thing to his LEFT toe on his other leg about a year ago. The toe is still a bit more swollen than the others, and his nail now grows back really crumbly, thick and lopsided (we like to call it his “Franken-toe”). However he doesn’t seem bothered by this, and none of the vets have picked up on it during his multiple different appointments.

I'm sorry you didn't get a reply. One of mine had a swollen toe with a fungal infection, I wonder if it could be that? It was treated by saline foot baths and 2 x daily anti fungal cream (sorry I can't remember what it was called) for 2 weeks. You have to really work the cream in between the toes. The nail on the offending toe was left thicker and crumblier than the others, a bit like a person who gets fungal nail. I'm not a health expert but this may be something worth mentioning to your vet.
