Having just got my two home I already have questions about their behaviour! Sancho is following Flo around like crazy trying to mount her and he seems absolutely infatuated with her! She doesn't seem too bothered yet, but I do notice she is staying under cover where he has no head room to get on her! Is this normal and is to be expected as part of the settling in process, or is it something he's likely to do all the time if he fancies her? If so, isn't she going to get fed up and what will she do when she's had enough?!? I was wondering too, can she expect this anyway, like when she's in heat (I'll keep a calender to see if there is a relationship) or after I clean the cage? Be very interested to hear how your boars all get on with the ladies!

My Fred, does this all the time rolleyes, except if he's eating or sleeping. He likes to listen to himself and when he's turned down he wheeks pathetically into himself... Secretly I think he is crying :)). He gets wee'd on alot too and whined at.

Anytime a girl comes near we resume " Brrrrr "

My girls are spayed, so Fred will never get lucky.... :))

Heres a wee video, of my cage and pigs, pretty much all the time. You need sound :).

It is probably still part of settling; I have noticed that some new girls will let a boar mount her as a gesture of acceptance, even though she is not in season. And some boys just go overboard when they are finally together with a girl! It sounds pretty par for the course for me!

A boy however, will try to mount a girl that is coming into season. She will keep moving, jump around and do anything to keep her back end out of his reach until she is ready for a very few hours at the end of it. Unwilling sows will kick at the boy or go for him physically - nothing you have to be afraid of! When the chips are down - it's the girls who call the shots, because they have to lay down and be still for the boy to do their job!

Best keep your room aired regularly right now: Sancho's pee is very testosterone laden, and Flo may spray back to literally tell him to p*ss off...

Thankfully, things will calm down eventually. The first few seasons can be on the lively side (girls wheek A LOT, but never move far away from their demented boy).

I recently added a neutered boy to a cage full of girls and he was like Benny Hill chasing them around constantly! I worried about he same thing as you as they girls were pretty annoyed. BUT he's not so bad now, it's all calmed down nicely thank goodness. It does still happen but it's not constant.

It will get better, promise! I have a neutered boar and two girls and in the beginning he was just CRAZY and I felt really sorry for the girls... Then I realised that they can fend for themselves :)

He still goes for them, especially when he gets excited, like when he hears me chopping veggies :)), but they tell him off. Bo gets weed on a lot...

Thanks for letting me know it is normal! Benny Hill :(|) it was definitely like that for a day or two. I think he might have had a bit of cabin fever too, he discovered there is a whole playground outside of the cage yesterday and has been busy as a bee with that ever since. Flo didn't let too much grass grow over it either, she must have had a quiet word to him yesterday because she only has to rear her head a little and he gets the hint! They've been getting on so well the last couple of days, they rarely bicker and she even shares her food with him (sometimes). I often see them meeting up under cover to touch noses when they've been apart for a while, it's tooooooo cute.

yeah both my pairss of pigs are one boy and one girl they do have the odd show off and rumble from time to time but the girls either ignore them or gesture their heads to tell the boy to get lost! It's quite funny to watch.

George is the funniest as after I have either stroked him or got him out for a cuddle he feels the need to strut about and show off! I think it is to show he is still the man in charge and that he is not a softy :))
