Recently we lost our beloved Benio in a tragic accident. He was a very confident, fearless piggy who loved nothing more than to be with his humans. He was the one who gave our younger boar (Ozzie) confidence to be around humans. Ozzie was a rescue, who only had human contact from his 6th week of life. He is a very skittish, independent pig who doesn’t care for cuddles or affection, and will reluctantly come eat from you.

When Benio was around, I managed to get Ozzie to a level where he would approach me for food, occasionally jumping onto me, and would accept the occasional stroke. This carried on even after Benio’s death, until he was bonded with a baby, Miki.

Since we brought Miki home (on Sunday), all Ozzie is doing is rumble strutting, mounting and chasing Miki. He doesn’t bother approaching me for food, doesn’t wheek anymore, is even more skittish than usual and doesn’t greet me on a morning when I come give him his breakfast (something he has done every day for the past few months). It’s worrying me a bit, because it feels like all of the progress I made in gaining his trust has just gone out of the window.

Understandably, Miki is absolutely petrified of me - he’s a 340g 7 week old baby, so obviously he runs at the slightest noise/movement etc. It’s Ozzie’s behaviour which worries me. Could it be a result of bringing a new piggy home?

How do I go about taming both of these boys? I feel like I forgot all the taming basics after Benio brought out Ozzie’s confidence.

give them time and be patient you are the bringer of veggies and they will come to love you for that.
