Hiya - my 3 year old boar had red in his urine last night. He weed about 5 times and it was stained bright red (not brown red), with clots of sticky blood (?) in the middle of the red wee stains. I picked him up and checked him all over and noticed flecks of blood in his penis, and even a little bead of blood in the corner of his eye. I assume it was blood because he hadn't eaten anything red, orange or beetroot, but I was confused by how bright the colour was. I've attached photos. I imagine the blood in his eye was maybe unrelated but unsure.

He seems a little lethargic but is otherwise eating and drinking as normal. I haven't noticed any discoloured urine this morning. I have a vet appt booked in for Thursday, but just wanted to check that it isn't an emergency? When I rang the vet he had only weed once but it became more over the next hour. Thanks so much!

P.S. The eye picture was taken after I'd wiped the bead of blood away but you can still see it a little. I put a puppy pad on top of their usual bedding so I could see any discoloured urine more clearly.

Its good you’ve got an appointment booked.
It would be worth giving the vet a call back and letting them know that it got worse since you made the appointment, you haven’t seen any this morning but that he seems lethargic. The decision as to whether they need to see him sooner is then up to them. Only a vet can diagnose and we wouldn’t want to speculate as there are a couple of things which can cause blood in the urine.

Switch from routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily so you can more closely monitor hay intake and ensure he really is eating enough hay. This will enable you to step in with syringe feeding more quickly should there be any change in him

Aw bless him :( My late Ellen used to have IC and would leave clots of blood when she was having a particularly bad flare. It's good you have him booked in at the vets but give the vets a ring, explain that the bleeding has got worse and that he's lethargic. They may see him sooner. Hopefully it's just a UTI which will clear with a course of antibiotics but it's impossible for us to say what's causing the bleeding

Okay thanks both! I'll get in contact with the vets - they told me to contact them on PetsApp if I wanted them to look at something. Especially as I think he's done two more wees with blood in today, and he's lost a full 100g over the last few weeks after being a steady chunky 1400g for about 18 months.

Hi everyone - thanks for your help! The vet suspects cystitis so we've got baytril and meloxidyl. The blood in the wee has stopped, but I reckon he's lost a few more grams so I'm keeping an eye on him for now. He seems pretty happy though!
