Hello strange question this;

Moved house a few months ago and pigs have been outside a few times in the nice weather. Thursday I noticed one piggy twitching his front leg like it was hurt but checked him over and he seemed ok, it was random but stopped after an hour or so.

Having cut his nails so no danger of getting them caught the only thing I can think is that he was nipped by an ant. We seem to have loads in this garden :(

So, does anyone know if this is particularly bad for pigs or can they cope with ants ?

I'd rather get rid of the ants but expect that's almost impossible mallethead

Thanks for your help !

I would be interested to know too, as I have red ants in the garden mallethead

I too have loads of bloody ants in my garden when the weather heats up, it drives me insanegrrrrgrrrrgrrrr.

I worry about my piggies going out there, so if anyone has got any advice on the best way to get rid of ants, that would be great.

Good point well made hun x

i've heard cinnamon makes them go away, aparently they HATE the stuff, Also the same with orange oil. If you can find the nest, hot water works well.

Not sure if its guinea pig friendly - or if it even works!

our old house was full of ants in the back garden
one summer they got into the kitchen through a hole in the wall- it was horrible!
my mum went and found the nests and poured a kettle-full of boiling hot water over it
cruel but it got rid of them!

Hi all, thanks for the tips !

It seems hot water is the way to go, I know they're only ants but I feel a bit mean doing that, just cos my pigs want their bit of grass !

I might get the cinnamon out first and see if they flee

hi ants can be a big **** i have a product here, but not sure if you can get it outside australia its called ant-rid and is almost like a poison caramel substance all you do is put a few drops anywhere outside where pets cant get to it and most of the ants around will come to it, then its a simple case of sweeping them up once they are poisoned its yukky to but it makes for happier piggys
