Hi everyone. I’m worried about my piggie lucky, he had hay in his eye yesterday which I got out and now today his eye is very red, has white gunk in and had red eyeball. Does he need an emergency appointment, we have one Wednesday but if he needs it we’re willing to take him asap. Picture of bad eye attached

Please have him seen before Wednesday. Ideally tonight but if not, tomorrow at the latest. He will need antibiotic eye drops and painkillers. He may or may not have a corneal ulcer but the vet will be able to check using a special dye and will be able to make sure there’s no more hay in his eye x

Eyes are always an emergency appointment. It doesn't need to be an exotic vet though.

If there are signs of bleeding in the eyeball please see a vet asap.
Eye treatment/medication and diagnosis is the same as with other pet species, so it is the one case where speed comes before being a specialist since eye injuries can deteriorate very quickly. UK vets will always do their best to squeeze eye injuries in as soon as they can because of that.
Gunkiness on the eye surface and cloudiness inside the eye (ulceration) means that infection has already set in.
