Hello everyone.

Our four year old girl has had recurring UTI (we think) for the past few months.
She is on her third round of Baytril and Metacam and nearing the end of her 15 day prescription. We have Ben decreasing the Metacam as or our vet, she is now squeezing again when going to the loo which suggests the Baytril isn't doing anything.
She has had both X ray and ultrasound and no stones or issues detected.
Can anyone recommend an antibiotic for UTI they have had success with? My vet seems very loyal to Baytril but it's not working.

Thanks

If multiple rounds of antibiotics isn’t working, then it may be that the issue she has is not bacterial. She may have a condition called sterile cystitis. It is a condition which affects the glucosamine layer in the bladder and causes pain. It can only be diagnosed by process of elimination of ruling out other conditions such as stones and UTIs. It’s a condition also seen in cats.
It can be controlled by giving glucosamine supplements and metacam daily at a maintenance dose. This dose can be increased during a flare up.

It may be worth having a discussion with your vet about it.
You can find out more information by searching ‘IC’ or sterile cystitis on this forum as we have many owners whose piggies have the condition
