Hello, my lovelies. 😊

I’m just looking for some suggestions on what hay racks work best for your piggies in keeping at least some of the hay clean and edible.

I have tried a couple of different types but no joy yet, they are still quite small so some they can’t reach or get into properly.
I tried filling a litter tray with hay for the easiest access but they have now discovered they can climb! And that is now, of course, their favourite toilet.

Some people use a wooden magazine rack. How big is your cage. I wouldn't use anything metal with horizontal bars. I've heard and seen pictures of Guinea pigs getting their front teeth hooked over when reaching up and Havnt got long enough legs to get themselfes out of the position

Personally I much prefer to use trays for hay. It’s great fun for the pigs to burrow inside and pick and rustle through to find their favourite bits. The play, eat, sleep and poo in it, which is what it’s there for in my opinion.
They can make a mess jumping in and out but that doesn’t bother me, as long as their happy.
I use cat little trays, but also recently bought a large flat storage container and cut a doorway in, here is a photo of it this morning

And here is the regular cat little tray..

Thanks all for your suggestions. 💕

I’m not removing the tray hun, I just want a source of clean hay available to them as well as I haven’t seen them grazing as much since. I don’t care about them making a mess. 😂

Your piggies are gorgeous. 🥰

My daughter sewed a couple of fabric hay bags to hang above the trays.
We use them for the 'special' (aka expensive) hay.

They seem to work well and were easy to make.
My daughter recommends this tutorial:

Oh wow, great idea thank you. 😊
