Recently one of my guniea pigs passed away, leaving my other guniea pig (Teddy) on his own. Teddy is nearly 4 years old and since my other guniea pigs death has seemed to remain healthy, is eating well and seems fairly happy. Is it worth trying to get another guniea pig?

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry for your loss.

Yes it would be a good idea to get another. Teddy still has many years ahead of him - too many to spend alone. Its good he is doing ok for now. It gives you time to look into finding a new friend.

It would be best to get in contact with rescue centres and enquire about dating. The rescue can help you find a suitable character compatible friend for him which will result in a compatible bond.
If a rescue centre isnt an option or he becomes too distressed from being alone and needs a new friend asap, then buying another piggy and carrying out a bonding yourself comes next. Do be aware though that buying a new piggy on spec does come with risks. One being that the two piggies won't be compatible and a bonding may not work. Its always a good idea to have a back up living arrangements plan in place if you are to try an on spec bonding in case of failure.

Thank you so much for the quick reply and the advice. Will look into rescues and try and get a new friend for him.
