The weirdest thing happened today, I don’t know if anyone has experienced similar?

We were opening our presents and letting the girls scamper around the living room, when one ran behind the sofa and started making the weirdest continuous noise. I’ve had gps on and off my whole life and never heard it before. It almost sounded like a fire alarm or a bird cheeping. I ran over and grabbed her and she seemed frozen so I think it was fear. We put them back in their house and she kept making it on and off for about 20 mins. I didn’t take a video because I was legit FREAKING OUT.

The only thing I can think is that we were watching The Snowman and the song came on? Does Aledd Jones sound like a guinea pig in distress?!

We’ve had to leave them to go and visit our relatives but obviously I’m still worried about her. She was eating and drinking by the time we left and seemed spooked but otherwise fine. She’s generally not nervous about noises. I’ve attached a pic of her from moments before the ‘incident’.

Hi and welcome

It IS called 'chirping' and it is the big piggy mystery as to why piggies do it as it is a known but mostly irregular and unpredictable behaviour from just a few piggies.

I've only ever had one regular chirper (you will find a video from one of Heulwen's day time aria's in the link); the other piggies have mostly done it as a one off or in imitation of Heulwen.

This guide link here contains a video and some information about chirping - what we can say and what we can't.

Omg that’s so interesting thank you! I wish now I had taken a video!

I wonder if she would do it again if I played the song. I worry about scaring her though poor little mite 😅😅

Personally, I would recommend not to replay it because chirping that happens out of context can seriously startle piggies, whether it is their own or other piggies' chirping.

She may or may not chirp again - it is one of the mysteries of chirping. It is however a special experience to witness it, so treasure that. :)
