how long is the memory of a guinea pig!? i know this is really random i ask because I'm sadly re-homing one of my piggies and i want to know shel forget her home and not be sad for ages! haha

Sorry I cant help but would be really interested to know.

I have no idea either... I worked in America for 2 months last year and Little Pig went to my Mum's while I was away. He took a very long time to get used to my Mum and had only just stopped being skittish with her when I got back. Now this might be me kidding myself, but he seemed to remember who I was and seemed pleased to see me - he wheaked and wheaked at me. Could have been complete coincidence though.

I would of said, pretty good as I have seen people do hurdles with piggies and surely they must remember what to do (trick wise).. and piggies usually remember the sound when they know its veggie time :)) :))

I'm pretty sure that's not how memory works, there's no definitive cut off for long term memory. People, and likely guinea pigs can remember things for a life time.

I think it will depend on how quickly she settles into her new home. I think it is unlikely that she will totally forget you but if she is happy with new friends she will be ok.

When I only had two pigs and Molly died, Rosie looked for her every time I put her back in the hutch. She stayed at the rescue bonding for a week while I had the home check and then the girls were indoors as it was cold. It was several weeks before she went back in the old hutch and she even looked for Molly then. Slowly she stopped doing it as she was happy with Poppy and Daisy. Within a week or two of Poppy and Daisy joining her she had stopped looking for Molly altogether. She had 3 more years living happily with them until she died last year aged 4 and a half.

I'm sure that as long as your little one is happy in her new home, lots of veg , nice house, good friend etc she will be perfectly fine.

Depends on the pig I'd say. I don't think it's memory as such more personality. Maurice pig was happy with all his wives, Matilda still misses Meggie even though she has Minnie.

On the whole animals don't have the emotional bonding we do, so as long as they are loved and fed they are basically happy bunnies, sorry piggies

Lol your picture made me spit my water out!:))

There is nothing wrong with their memories!

However, piggies have a strong survival overrule and will get on with life as it is and make the best of that. If the new life holds a new best friend and a loving home, then your piggy won't pine at all and will be a very happy piggy indeed!
