So I put together a plate of veggies for Penny & Luna, put them on neutral ground, and they're just nibbling away at the veggies. They're acting as though they've never been apart. The other day I put them together and Penny was being quite dominant over Luna, but today they just seem like the best of friends. Earlier, I also made the cage bigger, and put a divider in, so they can see/small each other, and they were there for about 5 minutes, just sniffing at each other and squeaking.
Does this mean that I could possibly put them back together soon? How many times do I have to do the neutral territory thing?

So Luna has just sniffed Penny's bum, and she turned around, and Luna froze with her head high in the air.
Now Luna is following Penny around the outside of the pen that they are in.
This is normal right?

Penny just squirted pee at Luna & Luna has backed off a little. Does this mean that I shouldn't put them back together? or is it normal dominance behaviour?

One of mine does this to one of the others, it's normal :) Sounds like they will be okay together. Penny has just told Luna how far she can go without being a real pain & Luna will learn Penny is not a push over. Strangely the other pair I had previous to my current three one of them also did the squirting & they got on very well. Mutual respect & all that lol :))

Thanks. Is the holding their heads high thing normal? I worry that if I put them back together in their new 2x5 cage, that they'll fight and one or both of them will get hurt.

It sounds pretty OK - they are already sorting out the dominance again after they have accepted each other.

All three of mine do that at some point in the day; when I first got them together the 2 youngest (not related) would raise heads & hiss at each other! It was very scary! No blood drawn but my nerves were shot as it went on for about 4 days, although Daisy (youngest) did have an abscess which was possibly from a bite a few months later.

If they hiss or lunge then I would probably be more concerned, but if it's just a little chasing & rumblestrutting with a few head offs then they should be okay. Give them plenty of veggies scattered around, lots of hay & no hideys unless they have an exit so they can escape from each other. Also 2 of everything, bowls, hideys etc helps.
