As some of you may know from my introduction post. My piggie Teddy (pictured in my av) has been through a rough few weeks. It all started when he got into a big bloody fight with his cage mate Patch. The two had to be seperated and treated for minor wounds. Teddy then had a castration, shortly after this Patch sadly had to be PTS, so Teddy was left on his own.
The plan was to wait the alloted time for a castration and to put him in with my girls.
The 4 weeks have passed and so i have started to put Teddy out in the run with the girls, as I havent got a cage big enough yet, the grids are on their way! :)
This is where it gets difficult as I kind of expected the girls are not accepting him, as I said in my intro post, Teddy is like a little puppy, he's only 7months old and just wants to play, the girls are kicking and weeing on him out the way. Bless him at one point I looked out and he was sat on his own looking a little sad. My two girls are about 10months old and have a very strong bond.
Teddy seems happy on his own but after the past few weeks he really deserves a happy ending to this and some good friend/s.

My questions are should I perservere and put the 3 together and hope the girls accept him into their clique, or do I get him a younger sow of his own? If i was to do this would it be ok to have the 4 in the same cage? I'm building a C&C cage so should be big enough

I've read and re-read the post on introductions and Weibke's advice in my into post. I would really appreciate any further advice on what others have done in similar situations.

Sorry for such a rambling, long post, thank you for reading if you have got this far! :)

This is how sows behave, they kick and wee... its them saying they are not ready.

I had 2 sisters (bonded) I introduced them to my single boar Fred and Wilma ended up developing a lovely bond with him. That being said my girls are spayed so my boy never gets lucky.

I recently found my PEbbles was on her own alot, so I took her on some Piggy dating were she met 2 potential hubbys (best thing I ever done). She bonded straight away to one of the boars who's now called Patrick. I now have 2 pairs.

If you decided to get him a new wife, I would highly recommend taking him to pick, as the bond my two have is incredible.

They could go in the same cage, but the girls would need to accept both pigs and there is always the chance he could end up the fourth wheel. That being said I have heard girls bond better to boars when they are in season but the fact they aren't going for him says they are accepting him.

I did find with trio I had a third wheel, now I have 2 fabulous pairs. xx>>>

Sows come into season every 15-17 days, and then it is a completely different game!

Right now, no girl is anywhere near in season and they are therefore tellling Teddy that they are not interested in him. Just persevere until the girls have been in season.

Joanna your successful pairing is what got me thinking about the same for Ted, I've just been thinking if I do need to get him a mate then I might build a second level to prevent someone being left out.

Wiebke after the girls have been in a season with him does this mean after that there will be no more weeing/ kicking out the way?
Thank you both : )

We went from a 3 x 4... and a 1 x 3 hayloft too...

Too this....

The only problem I had was Wilma hated the top floor so is now on the bottom and the newly wed's are on the top.

I'm technically new to pigs Fred I've had 8 months and the girls 5 months but so far from my experience I would recommend pairs, I have had a single boar a bonded trio and now 2 pairs boy and girls. I do think the boy/ girl pairings are marvellous... I tend to think 3 is a crowd at times.

I would seriously let him pick his wife, you can tell when it's right... Pebbles and Patrick were grooming in the intro and Patrick completely dotes on her and if you separate them he goes crazy trying to find her it's gorgeous x). Plus you get to help a rescue piggy and it's one more pig to fuss over ;).

Sorry I just realised I called Joanna not Joanne :red

To be honest the weeing etc doesn't seem to put him off, I just ideally would like him to have a mate he can really get on with, like your Pebbles and Patrick :)

Hmmmm I think I might continue with what i'm doing but also contact my local rescue to see about finding him a friend, just in case. I'll also need to order some more grids. I want to try and resolve this fairly soon as he has been on his own for about 5 weeks now and I feel bad for him. Although he does get a lot more extra cuddles because of this which he seems to love, I think he also likes the fact he doesn't have to share his food! :)
