My 5 year old sow rolo has a URI again, but this time is worse than usual.

She had pneumonia 2 years ago and is prone to them from damage to her lungs.
She has been loud crackling breathing for 10 days (whilst on sulfatrim and loxicom)

She had a vet appointment yesterday and they gave her baytril 1ml once a day, and stoped sulfatrim. ( can I give baytril 0.5 twice a day ?)
And a rapidexon injection, straight after the injection her head tilted, she was spinning in circles and wobbly on her feet, vet said to wait a few hours and come back.

She improved a lot but now she won’t hardly leave her hide, she is eating but not drinking so I am syringe feeding her water and critical care as she is eating less and slower. She is also on probiotic.

I’m so deflated as apart from the crackling breathing she was running around, alert, begging for food and wheeking and after the vet appointment she is just completely different. I feel so guilty aswell

I am so sorry. A nebulizer helped our girl, she had a few URI in her life. Once treated with medici e and nebulizer she recovered! I am hopeful your baby will too. I also juiced veggies for her and syringe fed her celery carrot apple spinach- SMALL amounts because of the susgars and that gave her a serious vitamin immune support. Stay positive, sending love and snuggles.

Thanks for your reply, she has been out of the hidey eating hay and drinking which looks promising! Is the nebuliser something the vet needs to prescribe? Or how do I go about it ?

Hi @Burns360 can I just check whether you are in the UK? Vets do things differently in different countries sometimes.
We normally get baytril twice a day (0.2 - 0.5 ish ml each time). It's quite hard to get a pig to take 1ml of baytril in one go as it tastes disgusting!

I've no experience of nebulisers but I don't think they need a prescription or anything. Try a forum search for nebuliser and you'll come across quite a few threads discussing the best way to use them.

Hi yes I’m in the uk, I’ve been giving the baytril as two doses with a pro biotic an hour after either syringed in water or her critical care
