Dear community,

My fluffy Tribble has something odd just above his rear and I have no clue what it is, I tried washing it gently with lukewarm water. It feels quite rough.

Do any of you have the slightest clue what it might be, and should I be concerned (Already quite worried!) :(

Both my piggies have a super tidy habitat, I clean it every morning and evening just in case! I've included a photo, say hello to Onyx, Tribble's best friend! :)

PS; I forgot to share with you guys that Tribble eats a lot, and he bounces around wildly every time I come with fresh hay, and boy, they get plenty of that daily!

Thank you

Maeneth

Hi, it looks like his grease gland. It's totally normal. It produces a waxy substance that guinea pigs use for scent marking. Some boars have a more active gland than others. Don't be worried unless it's red and inflamed etc. which Tribbles doesn't seem to be.

Phew, that is a relief to read.... Tribble is slowly maturing, he just turned one-year young!

If it gets really thick with grease you can use a little coconut oil to remove it. You don’t have to rinse it off. Just wipe it with a damp cloth.

One of my boys gets a mucky grease gland, I also use coconut oil. However I do wash it off the next day as my lovely little swampy pants needs regular bum baths anyway.

Hm! The coconut oil has been mentioned again, I shall get it.

Small update. Tribble is fine, he happily bounces around. <3
