When my wee female passed away her neutered male partner was heart broken so we brought in another wee female. She is around 3, he is around 4, both rescues. But he won't leave this new female alone, every month for several days he is constantly at her and she squeals. What can I do?

This sounds normal. When she is in season he will try to mate with her. It’s not something you can stop as it’s normal piggy behaviour

:agr: I'm sure she lets him know when she doesn't want that attention.

She does but instead of fighting back like her predecessor she just squeals really loud and looks terrified. Otherwise I would leave them to it.

That is normal response. Please don’t separate them, they’re doing what piggies do. It sounds a lot more dramatic (to us) than it actually is. Some can be more vocal than others.

Thanks. I was worried. Any idea what year they stop going into season?

I had the same for years with my Rupert and Jess (they were together over 6 years), she had the odd strong season and he really didn’t leave her alone, she’d screech and hide and it was a bit of a nightmare to be honest! Things started calming down when they got older at 5/6+ compared to what they were as youngsters, but it still happened sometimes.
Rupert sort of decided he preferred a romantic meal and a cuddle when he was older though and his hormones calmed down a bit (he passed away just before he was 7).
It all depends on the pigs really, they were together a long time but if they’re a new couple your girly is still very exciting at those times to your lad I’m sure!

I had the same issue with an old guineapig pair, Basil and Jacky. Basil would chase and Jacky would squeak like crazy.

Glad to say that my current boar, Cufflinks is generally quieter around his 4 sows. It can be quite un nerving.
