Hi, one of my guineas is one day post-dental abcess surgery. He is still not eating by himself (being syringe fed). He did produce some nice poops earlier but seems to have stopped and his tummy is very gurgly.

He is on tramadol 0.1ml twice a day and metacam 0.4ml twice a day.

I thought about giving him some emeprid but unfortunately have run out, I do however have cisapride. Is it OK to give cisapride alongside tramadol and metacam?

Thanks

I should be able to get some emeprid tomorrow but was hoping the cisapride might help until then...

We can’t advise you to give anything which the vet hasn’t told you to give for this particular issue.
Do speak to your vet further

Are you weighing him daily?

Actually I no longer think he is bloated, he has been breathing rapidly and having searched the forum I wondered if maybe he had aspirated some food (even though I've been very careful to try to prevent this).

I have emailed the vet this morning with a video and waiting for their response.

Vet just phoned and said he can have 0.1ml frusol twice a day and to continue with the syringe feeding/watering. He's still rapid breathing but he's hanging in there. Just letting him have a rest after feeding and then will give the first frusol dose.

If you are still concerned I would get your piggie to an emergency vet appointment.I'm sorry you are both going through this.🤗

Hi, sorry for the horrible pic, I've got a couple of questions if anyone is able to help?

1. I've been assuming the lower part is where I do the flush and the top bit is stitches and should not be removed?

2. When I flush it, nothing is coming out - is this because the antibiotics have stopped the pus? (He's been on zithro 0.5ml twice a day since Weds). I've been able to pick off some dried bits of pus, and if I wipe it with a damp cotton pad there is a bit of pus/blood but not much.

3. The abcess was drained on Weds and he is still struggling to eat for himself, is that to be expected? I am support feeding, which he is not enjoying but tolerating. He will eat tiny bits of hay, grass and veggies if I hand feed them.

Annoyingly, the only thing he really seems to want to eat is my croissant (see second pic)

He is back at C&R on Wednesday for a check up. Thanks anyone that is able to offer any advice. This is his second jaw abcess but I can't remember much from the first time around. The rapid breathing stopped by the way after one dose of frusol 0.1 ml.
