I'm to the point of constructing the ramp for the new C&C home I'm making.
Is a 45 degree angle too steep, or what degree of incline do you have for your ramps?

45 is probably too steep. Mine is slightly less than that (no protractor to hand to be precise, sorry), it's 60cm long and I've glued some carpet to it to avoid the piggies slipping. It give them great footing when wizzing up and down!

With my ramp I got several strips of carpet that were a tight fit so I could throw away the carpet and replace when it was soiled. Putting sides on the ramp is a good, I've found without sides the piggies won't use it. 3/4 inch 7 1/2 - 10cm is best as it makes them feel safe.
Hope this helps

I usually find the ramps in petshop cages too steep, and put a brick or similar under the bottom to make it less so.

Guineas are happier with ramps that have horizontal struts quite close together for grip, or rubber matting / carpet so it's not slippery, and they seem more confident using a ramp that has sides to it.

They are not natural climbers, bless them!

Does it have grip of any sort on it? My guinea pigs don't even use a ramp I have a litter tray about 4 inches off the ground and then a hammock leading up to the top level and they just hope off that onto the top ;D My boys are very agile.

I found a short wire shelf at Home Depot. I'm going to experiment with covering it with coroplast and fleece and see if that gives enough traction. Your boys do sound like athletes!
