I recently bought a cage from eBay for my two piggies. It is a twin cage so it has a ramp the only problem is my guinea pigs won’t go down the ramp.even though I have tempted them with treats and hay. Two other Guineas pigs (who they sometimes share the same cage with) can easily go down it and my guinea pigs saw them going down it.I think the ramp is too long and steep. Any suggestions to help my piggies?

Not all guineas will adjust to ramps - but some will . When I had a C&C cage, to make the ramp less steep , I made my loft 1/2 height . I've mislaid my pictures () but the pictures in this thread will give you an idea.

Ready Made C & C Cages In Yorkshire Area

My ramps were fixed with cable ties and , if I wanted to " close off" the loft area , I raised the ramps ( a bit like a castle drawbridge ) .

We have an advice thread . When I find my photos, I will ask admin to add them as I prefer ramps that have sides ( Guineas feel safer using ramps with sides ).

You can use all sorts of materials to make ramps . I have used wooden ones . Another good material is guttering ( Available in DIY Shops) - with some carpet for grip .

This is our advice thread ...

Ramps In Guinea Pigs Cage

Thank you! Should I think about getting a c&c cage? Or should I stick to the one I’ve got.:hmm:

I have a hutch but the ramp was too slippy. We added a wooden side so it wasn't exposed and then out some carpet on it and they soon started whizzing up and down it

How about attaching a fleece tunnel to the ramp? I think it seems less scary for them, piggies love tunnels :)

I have a corex ramp, attached to the loft with cable ties. I have removable fleece strips which match the fleece in the rest of the C&C (I just push it under the loft and twist it round the bars to hold it. Well, this morning I put a big bowl of grass in the loft, and the piggies just sat there - wheeking. Not one tried to go up the ramp....it was then that I noticed that the fleece had slipped off (never happened before), and they couldn't get up the ramp because it was too slippy. Silly mum!

Everything here are really good suggestions and what makes you comfortable with how steep it is watching them is best. I do have 3 c&c cages and incorporated the same ramps with covers but didn't trust myself to make these. The ramps I got have carpet on them with sides made of thick chloroplast. The covers do help but again, I purchased these already made and attached everything with the plastic ties and have velcroe for the fleece on top of ramp.

I never had a problem with them going up within a day for any but one baby did have to be coaxed a bit more (trail of apples) and I helped her up the first time when she was watching the others up there but a little anxious. Took a couple times but she flies now too.

My ramp is squareline guttering bought from Wickes DIY store. Comes in 2m lengths so you can make the ramp gentle. It has carpet double sided taped to the bottom of the guttering. My pigs use my ramp with no problems at all. ;)
