I lost my lovely oak in July, he was only 2 and it was quite sudden, he started having problems with his back teeth and he didn't recover from the anesthetic. I've found it so hard as I had a really nice bond with him. I decided to start a YouTube in his memory and I created a rainbow bridge for guinea pigs video. I hope it can bring some comfort to others

Hi and welcome

I am so very sorry for your loss. You did the right thing. Unfortunately, we can only ever by our piggies a chance but never a guarantee of success with any operation.

What a wonderful and special memorial for Oaks.

If you wish to, you can add your wonderful little video to this thread, which is stickied at the top of this section so many more people can be comforted by it for a long time to come.

Thank you, I have felt a lot of guilt wondering if I could have done things differently. The veterinary nurse took him home with her over night to try and get him to eat as he was refusing food after surgery and he passed at her home. I feel guilt as I should have been with him, all I can think is him looking for me it breaks my heart. But I know she was the best option as I hadn't slept the night before trying to get him to eat and was sleep deprived and couldn't stay up to feed him all night I was worried I'd do it wrong. And she was injecting the good pain meds so I know in my heart it was the right thing but just the idea of him looking for me and thinking I'd left him, I think I will feel guilty forever 😔
And thank you, I will try to add it now x

I don't think you can add new posts?

Good idea to add the video

With your assumed permission, I have integrated your charming video into chapter 3 of our human grieving guide (the chapter for children) as something to play for the smallest and for the unconsolable kids. It is credited to your member name and dedicated to the memory of Oak.

I hope that this is OK with you?

Thank you that is lovely, I remember when I lost my first piggie at 10,something like this would have helped me so much. I hope it can help children and adults alike ❤️

We have childrens and teenage book recommendations for different ages and religious/secular settings in our Grieving guide that help deal with loss in a really thoughtful and constructive way, as well as several advice links for parents on how to best to approach the subject and support their children but a video like yours very much fills the gap for the very young and something that is comforting and instantly accessible for the inconsolable, especially in the immediate wake of a somewhat traumatic loss.

I will however close the thread if it is to stay in the sticky guides section at the top.
