This isn’t anything new but Edward and Elizabeth are the quietest pigs I’ve ever had.
Ellen was always the wheeker but since she died last April, I’ve hardly heard a peep out of Edward or Elizabeth not even at veg time.

They do chatter at each other but never to me. All my past piggies have always been wheekers.

Should I be concerned or are some piggies just quieter than others?

Edward is just over 5 and Elizabeth is around 2 1/2 - 3

Mine are very quiet too.
Jemimah had an incredibly loud wheek and was never shy of shouting for veggies.
Since her death the others have been much quieter - some wheeking but nowhere near the volume we used to have.
They just gather at the bars and look pleadingly out when it’s veg time.
I do hear them chatter to each other though.

Priscilla can be loud but reserves that for me when I’m trying to groom her, or when she’s in a snuggle pouch and Micah tries to sit on top.

Oh gosh. I can't so much sneak a packet of crisps to myself at the other end of the house without them all screaming at me. As soon as I open the door, I hear screams. As soon as I open the fridge they all start screaming. I literally have to tip toe up the stairs just to avoid the noise. As soon as I turn the heating on, they start screaming too. I'm worried about getting complaints from the neighbours at this rate. 😂😂

My Chip and Dale were usually very quiet, very rarely did I get a squeak out of them at veggie time. However, they screamed the neighbourhood out when it was time to be handled! 🙈 How are they when you try to handle them? When the boys were in our lap, they were fine, just the journey there was terrifying for them. Typical ex-school piggies xx

I have noticed that some piggies are definitely more vocal than others. Two of my boys, Milo and George never wheek at all, George likes to chew the bars of the cage instead and Milo loves to rumble all the time. The girls are very noisy and our smallest piggy Hazel wheeks so loud that you can hear her over the noise of the vacuum cleaner.

I know what you mean. Mrs Dougal only makes a noise . . and a lot when she's picked up. . But charters away to Florence prob saying "Pls move in piggie talk".

It's just the piggies not you. x

My 6 are the quietest 6 I have ever had. The only one who wheeks regularly is little Hazel. Holly has always been quiet and Ralph, too (aside from his manly rumbles). They are always up at the bars like meerkats but just quiet. And in Evie’s cage none of them ever wheeks. They do bite the bars and Boris does an occasional rumble, but other than that they are silent.

Different breeds, plus the crosses and mixes of pet ones are definitely different in noise levels. My smooths are mostly very quiet and calm, never even pester each other, but the Abyssians are all very vocal, both when demanding food from me and with each other. They also rush about and niggle at each other just for the fun of it. Most noticeable of all is how much they complain - when things like cage cleaning get in the way of what they want to do.
I would never have noticed it so much but I went through a time when I only had smooths, then went back to keeping both, and that's when it really showed up!

Some are just quieter than others. I've also noticed mine go through phases where they are quieter than others. Neither of my current pigs are big wheekers, though Leela is definitely a 'chatterer' during lap time (and pretty much all the time.) She just whistles and twitters along all the time. During the early weeks of the pandemic I heard a lot more wheeking... I think more people at home meant more exciting fridge noises from upstairs. Now they have kind of adjusted to more people being home and it's much quieter again.

Rocky rarely wheeks. He usually just grumbles. Typical man. 😁 That's why when he wheeked for food one time in the past, hubby and I were so glad! He had extra treat that time. :)) It was also the same case with one of my past piggies, Prince. So timid and quiet.

But Vegas was a big difference. She couldn't shut up! She's very vocal and only quiets down when asleep. 🤣🤣 Sierra and Rocky's world turned upside down when we adopted Vegas. They were surprised the first time Vegas wheeked so loud nonstop asking for food. I think they didn't realise they can do that. 🤣🤣 Now everytime Vegas would wheek, they know they most probably will get something and would hover around the area where we put their salad.
