This has just popped into my head reading some of the other nail trimming questions on here this morning.

Do Guinea Pig quicks grow longer with the nail the same as other animals? e.g. dogs? So if you had a guinea pig with quite long nails, you’d take the end off, just a mil or 2, wait a week for the quick to recede and then take off another mil or 2, and so on until the nails are at an acceptable length? or once the quick has got too long, that is it, it stays long? Hope this makes sense.

I suppose this is easily answered if you have a pig with white nails, but mine have only ever been black, not that their nails ever got out of control as they were regularly trimmed.

Just wondered :)

You are quite right to ask the question. Piggies quicks do recede the closer you cut to them.

I agree with Dindypig, they do recede with regular cutting though piggies nails vary tremendously from really petite nails on the front toes (what I call baby nails) to quite thick nails on the back toes.
