This is very embarrassing but here goes.

The gang have been together two weeks this friday. At first it was all very stand offish, no blood but plenty of rumbling and strutting etc. Honey hid loads and Sophie and Henry did most of the noisy stuff. I witnessed most of this in the evenings after work and in the run. I regualrly checked for marks (and even had my sister have a look in on them)

As per instructions I took everything out of the cage and just hung up fleece to make big hidey places so no one could be trapped.

Having been ill and thus at home. I have been in my room with them for most of the day. Poor Honey gets ALOT of attention from Henry who is frankly a machine :red:red and it got to the point were this morning I took Honey out for a break, not sure that was the right thing to do. but well she looked shattered to me.

Sophie is the dominant sow in the pairing and doesn't tolerate Henry trying to mount her very often. This afternoon after a second lot of hay to distract them (they live on hay as their main bedding) there was a lot chasing and popcorning from all of them and poor Honey got the attention again..........Sophie goes under the fleece

I just want to check is this normal?

I had visions of them cuddling up together and everyone being chilled - obviously having some fun:red but not poor Hons getting pinned down all the time............

any advice?:red

This is normal and apart from taking henry out and having him live alone there is nothing you can do about it? As time go's on it will ease off and he will learn they aren't interested but as it stands, he is like a teenage boy who has just discovered, "how it all works and what he needs to do" (need i say anymore) Give it a couple more weeks and i think you'll notice a difference.

Darcy was like this with Lacey, constantly at her and only a couple of times been successful, if she doesnt 'fancy it' then she lifts her bum and sprays him in the face, I feel so sorry for him but he backs off, it doesnt stop him trying 20 mins later though :x

Thanks,

You see till the last couple of days I had thought that they all sat seperately in the cage and hated each other, obviously by the time I have been getting home from work they are rather tired!

Is it safe to put furniture in there now? or shall I leave them with fleece tents for another week?

xx

I personally think you would be ok to have stuff in the cage, so long as they all have somewhere to hide you should be ok. They will setlle down, they're just sorting out their pecking order.

lol just 'boyish' behaviour

You will notice the girls will probably wind him up then run off when he trys, my girls are real meanies when it comes to doing that LOL.

Lacey is a for that too, she will follow him EVERYWHERE, she is such a tease.

If they didnt want to, they wont, they will fight them off lol

When my sows are in season, my neutered boy Wexford can be VERY persistent with his 2 wives - apart from this other than a little rumbling when the girls go near him he's pretty laid back :))

It's when my sows are in season that they stand there and let him have his 'wicked' way :))

If you sows are following him round - even after he's been doing his daily rounds of chasing, then they can't be too stressed by him (my sows run and scream like mad, then turn around and follow him everywhere - so they are obviously not too stressed by him)
