Ok, some of you may know I'm thinking of getting a pair of female piggies next year, and I'm just doing some research.

-How often would i need to change the fleece, to stop the smell being very bad and so its good for the piggies?

-How many towels underneath?

-Would i be able to wash them in the bath/sink? (our washing never ends{so many people in the house!})

-How many fleeces would i need to start off with?

Thanks guys, you've already been a big help:)

I only recently started using fleece.

I have 3 fleeces which I fold over so it is nice and soft and are changed every 3/4 days....just judge it.

I actually don't use towels under I use some newspaper and it seems to do the job and this is also changed 3/4 days.

I suppose you could wash them in the bath nothing to stop you.

I then have two hay trays for my pair...one in their cage and one out their cage as they are free range.

Hope this helps :)

Newspaper but be good, but i was worried abouf if they peed onto it, would the newspaper ink run into the fleece and ruin it?

Oh and thanks :) x

I fully change mine every 3-5 days - although my girls could go longer than this as my one girl uses a litter tray. I spot clean their cages daily using a small cylinder hoover to pick up any poop/hay/shaving scatterings.

-How many towels underneath?

I now use washable bed pads underneath my fleece:

But before i invested in the bed pads i used two layers of newspaper followed by 3 layers of old towels and 1 layer of fleece material - again i used to clean out every 3-4 days.

I suppose so, depends if you don't mind hand-washing. :))

I started with a wash and a wear set (so two fleeces). I found fleece throws the best buy simply because there was a wider variety of colours/patterns to choose from and in some cases it worked out cheaper than the patterned fabric you can purchase by the metre.

Any more questions - ask away :)

Hi there. I use newspaper under vetbed in the cage, and newspaper under fleece in the play/exercise area (a childrens indoor ball pit). I change the paper every day, and wash the vetbed and fleece about every 2-3 days depending how soiled it is. The ink doesn't seem to stain the cloth, and I think if it did it would probably come out ok in the wash. I love vetbed and fleece, it's so easy to manage and lovely and soft for piggie paws. :)p

I used to use fleece and used newspaper underneath but it meant sweeping up each day sometimes twice when I could be playing with them. Also I found that it smelt more than other bedding. Plus the fleeces should be boiled wash, you'll find plenty of threads on here about fleece bedding. Most piggie owners put the fleeces into an old pillow case and put them in the washing machine to contain any left over bits and hairs.

I found that using an alternative absorbent bedding and then providing areas that are nice and soft works well, mine love sitting on top of their houses where they won't wee on but enjoy munching from.

It definitely is possible to keep piggies in your room without smell, it very much depends on how much time you can afford, lots and lots hopefully, besides they are very addictive!
