I'm planning now to have my solo boar neutered after 5 failed bonding attempts with other boars. The rescue said in their experience you get a better match with a boar + sow and they bond a lot easier.
What are others opinions on this?
Also if one of them passed away, is it a lot easier to bond a sow with another boar or sow, and the neutered boar with another sow again?

Cross gender bonding still relies on initial acceptance and mutual liking (two dominant piggies won't work out), but it is generally easier and a pair - once bonded - is unlikely to fall out. Bereaved partners can re-bonded; you have a wider choice of potential partners and therefore a better chance of success.

I would still recommend to try and find a partner via rescue dating, so the big initial hurdle happens before you bring any new piggy home.

Age between the partners is less important than mutual liking. I have had 3 year old husboars bonding with a 7 year old sow (and then happily popcorning with a 6 weeks old wifelet after her death) and one of my 5 year old sows is currently very happy with her 5 months old "toy boy" who is adoring her in turn.

PS: I have currently 5 neutered "husboars" of varying ages living with 1-5 sows each.

I'm still going to do the bonding with a rescue. The rescue lady said you can tell within 5 minutes with a boarxsow pair if they'll get along or not. Once he's neutered and has had the appropriate time before meeting a lady piggie, then I'll contact them and hopefully they'll have some sows available.
I just really want Han to be happy. It's been a couple of months now since Chewie passed away and I've been trying ever since to get a boar, and it's just not happening.

He will be happy again!

Please wait 6 weeks post-op; my Tegan is the daughter of a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post-op boar (not one of mine).

I do plan on waiting, I want to make sure he's completely healed and fully recovered anyway.
