Hi,
i got a little boar (8 months old) from the pets at home adoption section yesterday. As soon as i saw him i knew he was mine!
Since he came home he has'nt eaten much -i am not sure what he has eaten at his previous home and whether fruit/veg was new to him? What i am worrying about is that he is lonely? Do you think he could be?i understand he had been living with a bunny .
I have 2 bonded boars in a cage opposite so he has other piggies to talk to.
Any advice would be great
thanks :-)

i would start with pellets and hay alot of in experienced owners and pet stores dont give veges.then just very small amounts of veges and slightly increase them over time so you don't upset his tummy from changing food too fast. Also try popular piggy veges like little corn kernals, celery leaves, and some fresh herbs and dandelions usually go down well with most piggies x hope i helped
also a friend for him asap so he has a friend just chatting to other piggies isnt usually enoughxxxxx

Thanks for the advice-is a baby piggy best as a friend for him? I had a bit of advice from someone else and it was mentioned about neutral territory. Should i wait til he gets over the hormonal stage?
Thank you

i would pair him with a younger boar that hasn't reached his hormonal stage yet :p yes it is best to introduce them somewhere neutral with not to much of one boars scent. No i wouldn't wait i have heard of piggys dying of depression within a week or 2.There are some fantastic girls on here that have rescues and would be able to pick a suitable boar for your little guy so they have a better chance of getting along.if you go to a petshop or somewhere like that and get a boar and they dont get along then you have two [piggies to find friends for.I think some of the rescues will even take your boar for a day or two and bond him properly with another one look in the rescue section generally a dominant boar with a submissive boar works the best;)

As your boy hasn't been with other piggies, would it help to contact your local rescues, so you can find the one with the biggest choice of possible partners to try him out on? Character is as much a factor as age.

Have you access to a lawn to cut him a bit of grass? Most piggies will eat that! Or a bit of carrot! Just start slowly to avoid giving him the runs.
