Hi! I am thinking on getting a neutered boar for my sows once I expand my cage. My question is do the neutered boars still try to mate? Just curious.

Yea they will. When the sows go into season they’re happy to oblige.

Yes neutered boars act just like any bloke of any species lol lots of male posturing and flirting and mating if they get the chance! Often lady piggies set the rules though and keep an over-enthusiastic husboar in his place :)

Hi!

Yes, neutered boars behave just like normal boars - except that they are minus some crucial equipment. I've currently got 8 'husboars', each living with his own wife or wives, myself but have had more predecessors including Hywel, who had 13 sow-wives at the height of his very happy boar life, considering he started out as an 'unbondable' bully...

What you need to be aware of is that your two sows need to be good friends because a boar (provided he gets accepted, which is not necessarily a given) will inevitably side with one of the sows sooner or later if there is an underlying rift. He cannot be used as a remedy for a rocky relationship.

Many of us do love a good neutered husboar in our piggy families, they bring a lovely extra dimension to the social group, if the girls will accept him of course! Boars are often very straightforward personalities, they like ladies, food, and long lazy naps. Ladies can be much more tricky and moody and socially nuanced :)

Husboars are great, they add another dimension to a herd of ladies. You can only have one husboar per herd of ladies though x
