Is it ok to pin them? One of my trio's has found out how to between the inco pads and fleece, so I would like to pin the two pads together (they overlap to fit the base of the cage) and then pin the fleece securely over it whilst it is outside of the cage, so that I can just drop it in. It will make clean a LOT easier as the cage is big so I have to almost climb into it at the moment to tuck it all under, whereas if I could do this outside of the cage, it would only take a minute.

I'm thinking of using those big safety pins, the nappy style ones (if I can find them!) that you had to pull the end to be able to undo them so that they are no danger to the piggles.

My only concern would be that by sticking pins through the inco pads, it might make them less effective? Surely it wouldn't affect the absorbency, would it?

Thanks! :)p

Oooo I just noticed the Amazon seller has put the prices up! I wonder whether its because of all the guinea pig owners custom?

I know. I had to pay £8.50 because I waited too long to order! Never mind.

I've just cut an inco pad to make a smaller strip to fit the part of the cage the other pads don't cover. The filling is a very absorbent type of wadding and seems to close in around the stitches as I make them. So I wouldn't think it would make any difference to the absorbency. However, if the safety pins leave holes in the bottom waterproof layer, then you may find a bit of leakage from there, as this is the layer with least 'give'. I've just tried sticking a darning needle through (nearest thing I have to a big safety pin) and it definitley leaves a little hole in the bottom layer.

Only other thing I can think if is velcro. That might work better.
Hope this is helpful to you.

Tell me! I just had to order another 3. I bet he has never had such good business!

I now own a ridiculous amount of inco pads :red

Meanwhile don't know about the pinning business sorry hon. The new pair are doing exactly the same thing though so have had to weight it down with a couple of those marble cooling blocks that I had laying about. I'm sure they squeaked their plans over to the 4 girls though as after 3 months of no problems they have now started to do the same thing mallethead Poo is meant to stay on top of the fleece for ease of cleaning, not be liberally fired inbetween inco pads and fleece / inco pads and cage base / anywhere else that takes their fancy!

Ooo I didn't think about the puncture on the underside. Hmmmm. Might have to reconsider :( I don't mind putting velcro on the pad, but don't really want to put it on the fleece (at the far ends of the cage, the fleece only tucks under by about 1.5 inch at either end) Would it hold on its own? The only other thing I can think of is something like a mini version of those brace strap clip things that hold sheets on to matresses.

Exactly! That was my point when I had a stern word with Sasha this morning. She didn't listen and pulled it back off. This is the first week they have ever done it :( And they just KEEP doing it! No matter how many times I tuck it back under. I think Mabelle and Sasha are the main culprits. Audrey, Seymour and Mushnik in the other cage haven't done it at all yet, but like yours, they might talk! {:|

I also own a ridiculous amount of inco pads too hun! It's not just you! I have 14 I think, in two sizes, and still feel I need more :red

With regards to the price, maybe they twigged that by buying through Amazon, they weren't adding the VAT on top? If you order direct from their site, they were the same price as Amazon (the old price) but then added the VAT at the end. The chair pads don't seem to have gone up though (I've got these as well) so maybe it is the guinea pig owner thing - esp since 4 of the 5 reviews are from pigaholics!

I think if you just want to pin the fleece at the very edge you should be ok. I would be tempted to try and pin on the bias binding that hems the pad- it's stitched there anyway so shouldn't make any difference.

Good luck. :)

Well my trip to Wilkos was rubbish - had hardly anything I needed! But I did get some strips of elastic... I need to go to Boots to get the nappy pins, might nip out in a bit, to test right on the edge, see what damage they do to the pads... And if I'm not happy with that, then I was thinking I could stitch elastic to pins at each end and then pin the fleece underneath so that the elastic stretches from on end to the other. If I'm not making much sense, I mean something similar to this.

Well I bulldog clipped the fleece to the inco pads around 5pm. We've just had a peak in before bed and there is a lump. In the middle of the cage. Mabelle has already found a way around it! (Or rather under it!) Perhaps now he knows he can do it, he'll do whatever it takes :(

Oh dear! You've got to admire his determination and ingenuity though. :)) You'll think of something else. It's woman vs guinea pig. :))

I've not used Inco Pads but I have sewn Fleecy 'envelopes' for people who do!

Have you got enough Fleece to create a large envelope/pillowcase creation that you can slip the Inco Pad in or out of as necessary?

Well, I moved the bulldog clips last night, so they were more towards the middle of the pad where he'd got under... And this morning! ...... Three piggies on top of the fleece Yayyy! Mabelle looked particularly grumpy though I have to say.

Pollie stitched my fleece, to my incopads, maybe that would stop it?

I did think that, but I want to be able to change the fleece (I bought so many designs!) But I guess I could stitch the big paw print ones that I don't really use to the pad then tuck the fleece I like around it, so even if they did get between, it wouldn't matter. He does seem to like going underneath. Good thinking Joanne!

That's a good idea too! Again, I could use the paw print fleece for the underside of the pocket.... Ideas ideas, you lot are great xx>>>

Another thing that you've given me an idea for, I could use the paw print fleece and make removable covers, a bit like fitted bed sheets, so that they are stitched to shape so (maybe?) harder to pull off. Then have the normal fleece tucked on top.

Thanks everyone! Going to see how they get on with the bulldog clips and if it all goes wrong, then will do one of these ideas :)
