Is it safe, from a health perspective, to keep rabbits and guinea-pigs in the same shed? They will be separate (so no risk of injury to either), but in the same vicinity. I've heard of guinea-pigs getting respiratory infections from rabbits and rabbits getting Pasteurella from guinea-pigs, hence my concern.

The rabbits and guinea-pigs once shared the same run (for a few months only until I built the rabbits a bigger one), and got on well (they'd always be going up to my doe for a good groom - although I don't think they ever returned the favour!). However, we did notice that the rabbits seemed more carefree on their own (like they didn't have to worry about kicking the guinea-pigs), and we got a guinea-pig train for the first time when the piggies were in the run on their own, so I wouldn't have them share a run again.

The shed is 10'x6' and currently full of 'stuff', which we'll move into the rabbits' current 6'x4' shed; we would probably give the rabbits at least half of it and the guinea-pigs the rest (and build-up).

It is Bordatella that is spread from rabbits to guinea pigs.
I keep my rabbits and guinea pigs in the same building and have never had a pig with a respiratory infection. I suppose there is a risk though!

My piggies/buns live in seperate hutches but in the same area and I've not had a problem with respitory infections. I think Bordetella can only be transfered by direct contact but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Mine too live within the same shed. I'm not sure about pasturella being passed from pig to rabbit but have had a rabbit with pasturella, living in the same environment as pigs. I was in hospital at the time (bun was my step-daughters) & her rabbit was moved into our house until he got better. However, on one of my weekends home i found one of my pigs had lost weight but he was otherwise fine & i syringe fed him some food, the following weekend i found him dead in his hutch (his cage-mate was fine) & on my discharge from hosp found another pig who had lost an awful lot of weight (her 2 cage-mates were fine), but no other symptoms (just like the 1st pig), she passed away 6wks later after being syringe fed for the whole of that time. These 2 pigs both lived with others & were not housed next to one another.
Whether pasturella was to blame i have no idea. :(
