I tried to search the forum but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for, maybe I'm just not looking properly because I'm on the work computer and on edge in case somebody sees! ") Good job my desk is in the corner & faces away!

I want to know when it is safe for guinea pigs to go outside? The problem I have is that I can only take the pigs on if they can go outside, I can't have them indoors because of our very loving and overly friendly cat!

The hutch I have has a cover but underneath that I will be lining it with blankets which will be protected from rain by the cover, then getting 2 of those picnic blankets that are water proof on the one side, one for the back and one for most of the front, then a clear shower curtain for extra protection.

Loads of hay, a few houses and bed etc :) also 3 heat pads :)

I was supposed to be taking on my aunties lone boar but that went kaput, had a message the same day from a girl who wanted me to have her sister (in laws) guinea pig girls last year but I didn't and they were rehomed elsewhere. They bought 2 more girls not that long ago.. and they need rehoming (shockingly..) but have been inside and outside for the past month. They have been inside for a week or so now.

If they have only been inside for a week it may be possible for them to go outside, especially with us coming up to summer. The main thing with outside pigs is keeping their temperature more or less equal in the summer and winter, with ice blocks, heat pads ect. I know lots of people who have outside piggies and as long as you make sure they're all warm and dry I don't think there are any problems. The only issue would be that these pigs have been messed around quite a bit, in terms of environment and this isn't good for piggies just like it isn't for rabbits. If it's the only way for them to get a good home I would say trying it can't hurt.
