I only have 1 secure wooden run for my pigs, so only either my 2 girls or 1 boar can go in it at one time. My girls' hutch is way bigger than my boars hutch, so when the girls are in the run I feel bad for him in his little hutch. If I put him in the girls' hutch whilst they are out in the run, would it be ok? Or would it cause issues between my girls because of his smell being in their hutch?
Thanks :)

Hmm, not sure what it would do to the girls, they can smell him anyway because their cages are next to each other if I remember rightly. I just wonder whether it wouldn’t be fair on him to be put into a different environment and then move back again. I don’t think I would do it personally.
I would look to getting another run so he can be out at the same time if you have the space for another

What are your plans for him again?

Yes I wondered that too, if you plan to have him neutered so he can live with the girls? I think that's what most of us on the forum would recommend if you have a lone boar and 2 girls who live as neighbours :)

I believe the OP was also looking at extending the boar hutch and bonding him with another boar but I had explained that some more distance than their current set up was essential between the two (sows and boars) hutches so as to not pose a risk to the boar pair’s relationship.
Neutering him and bonding with the girls would be the all round best option @GuineaPigsPipPumpandJG as you could then have one large enclosure and hutch and not have to worry about anything else

My boar is almost 5, and I'm not sure how healthy/robust he is, for the first 4 years of his life i don't think he got fresh veg regularly (he wasn't living with me then), do you think he would be ok with being neutered? I would just be worried about him because he wasn't in very good shape when we got him, he's better now though :).
I would love for him to be with the girls though as he does love to talk to them though the bars :)

Only a vet could comment on how he would hold up to neutering - he would need an all round health check first.
Many people do have older piggies neutered though - those who originally lived with another boar for many years but one boar passes so the remaining boar is neutered to be able to live with sows.

Neutering is still definitely possible with an experienced guinea pig vet.
Finding a good vet really is key.

I was going to get one of my older age boars neutered some years ago, he was around 4 or 5 when I wanted to but he had chronic breathing issues, had had 2 uri's and pneumonia before, So I didn't even bother to ask about it. But I would if hes a healthy with a good vet

I am definitely going to look into it :)
