So Wheat has never liked being picked up (I say never; I've only had her 2 weeks. But so far, picking up is not her favourite thing) and is only even vaguely content if she can roam around on a blanket on your lap. She does not want to be stroked, held or cuddled.
Right now the girls are getting over mites (and I reckon they've still got a few, but don't want to accidentally OD them with Xeno!) and so I was trying to check them out, which is obviously hard with a guinea who doesn't want to be touched! Anyhoo, I absent-mindedly gave Wheat a bit of a scratch while trying to quickly hunt out beasties and she made a low rumbly sort of sound, which I'd usually take to mean "stop TOUCHING me woman!" but she then rolled over onto her side, put one leg out and shut her eyes a bit, like a dog would if it wanted its tummy scratched.
So I carried on gently scratching for a good 10 minutes (probably double the longest she's stayed on my lap before biting or peeing before) while she sat quietly and periodically making this noise.
Is she actually 'purring' rather than growling at me to go away?!
