Hi so I was pup sitting for a friend and somehow while I was at work the pup got out her cage and into my Guinea pigs cage sadly one didn’t make it but the other made it she missing a lot of fur and her ears really messed up. I can’t find a vet in the area I live in that will help her. I’m scared of something being wrong inside. I’m not sure what to do at this point. She is eating, drinking and moving. I’m looking for advice on what to do

I’m so sorry to hear this.

Your piggy will need to be checked by a vet as that is the only way to be sure there aren’t internal injuries.

In the meantime, please switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh your piggy daily so you can more closely monitor hay intake, and step in with syringe feeding in case the shock or potential injuries means piggy doesn’t eat enough hay independently (seeing them eat hay doesn’t mean they are in fact eating enough as 80% of their daily intake needs to be hay so any reduction in that intake due to any illness, accident etc will quickly show in weight loss).

I hope your piggy is ok

I’m so sorry this has happened and you have lost a piggy. I agree only a vet will be able to check for injuries. I hope this piggy is ok and recovers from their injuries.

I'm so sorry. I really hope your remaining girl is OK. What a terrible thing to happen. She really will need to be seen by a vet and then need lots of tlc to try and get over it. Even if she has no internal injuries from this attack she may well need antibiotics and/or painkiller for her wounds. She will also need another companion to help her feel safe again. If you do not have a piggy-savvy vet that you are confident with there are some UK ones linked in the green bar above - or if you are US based the guinea lynx website has some recommendations Guinea Lynx :: GL's Vet List

The other thing to say is that if this pup ever comes into your house again it will immediately remember that there are 'prey' to be had. It has to be your choice as to whether it is allowed to come in or not. The surviving piggy will smell the pup - or any dog - and be terrified. There are various annoying and misleading videos doing the internet rounds where predator and prey species appear to be happily co-existing... eg. dogs 'washing' piggies who seem to be (and might actually be) enjoying the attention but although people do have dogs/cats etc. as well as rabbits/piggies/hamsters we would never recommend that anything like this be allowed to happen. It is we sociable humans who like to see predator and prey peacefully coexisting but we are fighting ten thousand years of evolution and even if things go wrong only 1% of the time that's a lot of trauma to live with. As you've sadly found, out it only takes once. Again, I'm so sorry for your experience 😞

Thank you guys I’ve been calling vets the last few days the only one that will take her is an emergency vet but said that she isn’t critical enough. I’m going to try and make a few more phone calls today while at work today.

Sorry for your traumatic experience and loss.
Hope you can get a vet appointment quickly.
Holding you in my thoughts

I’m doing my best. Idk what I’m going to do because everyone i called in my area said they don’t do Guinea pigs or that she not critical enough to be seen

So sorry for you, what a terrible thing to have happened. Hope you can find a vet who can check her over, in the meantime keep a keen eye on her, you could weigh her daily to make sure she is eating enough x

I just got a vet to see her tonight just have to wait till I get done work to go get her and take her

So I we just left the vet they said everything is okay they have her in antibiotics twice a day just to make sure her ear don’t get infected with the cut

What a truly horrifying thing to happen. I'm truly sorry to hear. I hope your remaining piggie will be ok and that you were finally able to get to a vet for some pain relief.
