Hi there!
My partner and I adopted two guinea pigs, Barney and Punk, on Saturday and they seem to be settling in well, they eat out of our hands and once we FINALLY pick them up they seem to be happy for a cuddle, but Punk takes a lot longer to calm down than Barney.
Punk is definitely the boss, he will chase Barney around the cage when he wants to, so Barney quickly figured out the ramp of the c&c cage (base is 4 x 2, loft is 1 x 2) with a little help from a trail of cucumber. Upstairs was Barney's place until this morning when my partner found Punk up in the loft - he had managed to learn how to use the ramp in the dark, it was rather impressive! But he won't come down and has been up there for more than 7 hours. I put some water in a bowl for him and have fed him a bit from my hand but have put most food on the ramp to try and get him down. Barney went up to see him once but has decided to take over Punk's box instead. They both seem rather sleepy today so he may just be comfy but I'm a bit concerned that he doesn't seem to want to go near the ramp. He seems to rather eat his poo than venture down to the food bowl and the veggies.
Does anyone have any tips for enticing piggies? If he managed to get up there surely he can get down? He's not being territorial over the loft as he is with his box (he will chatter teeth at you and Barney rarely gets to be in the box) but he just seems a bit shy today. I have no issue with him being up there, I just want to know that he can get down by himself! The loft has a roof so it's pretty tricky to reach in to pick him up (which he wouldn't like much anyway!).
They are a bonded pair of pigs (according to the lady we adopted them from) and they are friends a lot of the time.
Cheers,
Becca
