Hi everyone,

I posted a few months ago about my poorly piggy Pumba. He’s got kidney issues but has been doing really well up until this past weekend. So on Sunday he started breathing heavy, not audibly but I could see his breathing on his sides was quite laboured. He also swelled up on his sides and chest all the way to his neck. I took him to the vets Monday morning and they did an X-ray and examined him and said they couldn’t find anything? So gave us some antibiotics to see if they would help. No improvement in 2 days so brought him back to see a different vet this time and she said he’s got fluid in this chest (not sure whether it’s heart or lungs) so that’s why he’s swelling up and breathing heavy. She gave him a few injections and we are picking up meds for him today. I think she said he will be on fruisol? And antibiotics and pain relief. Since having the injections he’s very lethargic and still breathing heavy so I’m really worried. Has anyone got any advice or been in a similar situation. I feel like an awful owner because I can’t make his pain go away :(

I’m sorry Pumba has been unwell. You’re doing all you can to help him. You are a wonderful piggy slave. I don’t have any experience of these issues but hopefully once the medication kicks in you will see an improvement.

Poor little fellow. I hope that the Frusol helps to clear the fluid for him. I have had a couple of piggies in the past with heart problems who have been on Frusol and it generally works quite quickly. You are doing the very best you can for him.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for posting this again I just didn’t get many replies and am a worried piggy mum.

I don’t have personal experience of frusol, but I'm sure it works quite quickly. Has he been given it now?

Are you syringe feeding him?
Is his weight stable?

Yeah he has had it for a day now and seems to be less swollen but still breathing a bit fast. His weight is stable and he’s eating just not drinking as much as usual (his usual is a lot)
He’s less lethargic today and seems a little better so fingers crossed.
Just worried for him :(

🤞sending healing vibes to Pumba, hope the anti water retention medication dose the trick x
