Hello everyone! Eddie has a small bump just above his grease gland, he has had it ever since I got him when he was 3 months old (he is now almost 2) It has never changed size or shape and Eddie doesn't even seem to notice it's there so I am not too concerned about it. If I run my finger down his spine it feels like a bone at the end of his tailbone sticking out. Does anyone know what it is? does anyone else's piggie have it? Sorry I can't post a picture, it's too hard to photograph with all the fur.
thanks!:)

Hi!

From my own experiences some piggies can have a more protruding tail end than most. If it is always the same, there is no need to worry.

If its not bothering him its probably fine, our Puggle has an extra tail bone, she always had a bony lump then we saw it on xray when she had her tummy xrayed for bloat- it doesnt bother her at all, just makes her look a bit pointy at the back end compared to her friends!

My guinea pig blueberry she has a larger butt bone she is sensitive being touched near there sometimes she flips out and starts to pee I’m wondering if that is why she pees a lot

Both of my guineas have it and I have wondered about it as they are different breeds. Anyone get a diagnosis?

This is an old thread @Bernie131 and having a few extra tail vertebrae rarely causes medical issues. There is no diagnosis as such, some tail-less animals, even humans, whose ancestors had tails, are occasionally born with a vestigial stumpy tail when the genetic instructions get a bit mixed up- much like having an extra toe, it happens sometimes. A vestigial tailbone protrusion may he more obvious in young or underweight animals- if you are thinking you see this in multiple unrelated animals it may just be normal, we all have a tailbone, if you feel for it, as do piggies- just not usually much tail!
If you are concerned about a minor birth defect/individual quirk, consult an experienced vet.
