Iv been playing around with my piggy cages now for the past couple of days, and at the moment am using towels and paper which i find really easy.
Am thinking of buying some fleece over the weekend to go in the cages but would these smell to much as i have 3 boars ?/

And also what kind of protector would i need other then newspaper, i have some old pillow protectors that i have never used would they work the same as mattress protectors.

Sorry for all the questions rolleyes

I'm confused about what you are using at the moment, so a little more clarification on that would be helpfull. :)

The fleece does smell eventually, same as any bedding, personally I have found a way that I feel limits the smell enough for it to be liveable. :)

A pillow protector would work the same as a matress protector, however like a matress protector it needs to be 100% cotton topped, and you may need more than one to cover the area. (even of a minimum 4ft by 2ft cage :) )

Are you three boars all living together? :)

i have been putting paper under the towel, It gets changed everyday this was just a tempory thing as i didnt have time to fetch any fleece, No not all together they get spilt up at night time and i have to have 1 on his own because he tends to get quite humpy and upset the other two.

Ahh, Yes, I was going to warn you about boar trios :) Have you thought about pairing the lonely male up at a rescue?

The fleece acts as a kind of... barrier if you like, It wicks the wee away so the fleece stays dry and whatever you use underneath gets soggy. :)

Yes iv been thinking about getting him a mate but at the moment its really just the space,

So would i put paper, protector, towel then fleece ?/

You could do if you like. :) My current set up, is dry nights bed pads (these are like larger puppy pads) Then the matress protector, then the fleece. That lasts my pair 5-6 days. However their cage is large for a pair, it would last probably 4 in a standard 2ft by 4ft. :)

Your way works just as well though.

A single piggy needs about 2ft by 3ft of space, and a pair needs 2ft by 4ft, so thats really not so different. :) If you wanted any ideas on housing to fit all sorts of sittuations have a browse of the housing section. Everyone does things differently, I'm always looking in there when I plan to change anything with my boys home. :)
