Hey everyone,

I'm not sure why I post so much about my piggies on here to be honest...I think it's because not many people I know have my interest in piggies. It's nice to be able to share news with people who care and don't think I'm a bit piggie mad haha :)

Anywho, I feel I have made progress with my bubs today :)) My very skittish little boys let me hand feed them. They were brave enough to come and get the food from my hand, bless them. It's been 3 days and finally I feel like I'm getting somewhere.

I never realised how patient and understanding I had to be. My last piggies were extremely tame and it was quite different bringing pigs home who were totally opposite.

I'm so happy I have made this progress with them. Warms my heart haha :p
What is the next step in gaining their trust? Do I just continue with the hand feeding and talking to them? I would like to take them out and cuddle them for bonding time but would I be taking that step too soon?

Any help would be so much appreciated :)

I think you should start handling them. You really only need about 48 hours to let them settle in their new homes before starting to pick them up. Little and often until you build up their trust. After a year my 2 still run away so I use cuddle cups to lift them out and put them back in to avoid any accidents. Once on my lap they get a veggie treat and then it's splat time. They stretch out and want their backs stroked.

Since yours are taking food from your hand in the cage I suggest you give them a vegie treat when you take them out so they associate being picked up with good things.

I would say handling now is fine. I have had very skittish babies in the past but I have just adopted a new one who is completely tame at 6 wks which was really odd to me. A few weeks later I even managed a nail trim (well just the tips of the nails as it was not really needed) to see how he was and he was perfectly fine!

Now yours has settled I would definitely start to handle, I know picking them up can be stressfull for them but you have to start to get them used to this. Have a treat handy, they maybe to stressed to eat it straight away but once they calm down they will munch away.

Good luck!
