Okay so we have a serious problem with the new bed. I gave it to Alfonzo now so he's nice and comfy after his castrate, but there's just so much room! I fear even once him and his wifepig Senna are in it together, it may not be cosy enough for them.

So my question, which probably now puts this in the wrong section lol!

Is it difficult to add a sow to a boar/sow couple? Thinking ahead here but I was really looking forward to having a little herd before Zafrina went to rainbow bridge. Senna was used to living with about 5 or 6 other sows before.

A two tier 4ftx2ft cage should be big enough for a boar and 2 sows shouldn't it? (Now keeping this in the right section? lol)

I'm just wondering how most people do it. Do they generally have 2 sows and decide to add a boar, or is it quite common to add another sow to a mixed pair? Senna and Alfonzo will be my first experience bonding piggles!

I think it's easier to introduce a boar to two bonded sows than a sow to a bonded boar and sow because sometimes they object to interlopers on their relationship. I've not done either but I've no doubt someone more experienced will come along soon.

Can't comment on introducing a sow to an already bonded sow+boar couple, but we have recently introduced a neutered boar to our bonded sow duo.
Our sows were never close, but after the loss of Rosie and Esme within 3 weeks back in November they were squabbling more than ever, which is why we decided to expand our group by adding a neutered boar.
Initially Edward was very excited and the girls were a little stroppy with him, but after almost 3 weeks of living together( and both girls being in season twice;) ) they are now quite happy together.
It is all about getting a good mix of personalities which is the main thing I think.

Ive only tried to bond a sow with a couple once. I had two couples but one boar died silo I tried to bond the remaining sow with the couple. Mrs mouse completely objected to sharing her husband and got very jellious about her husband chasing after and attempting to hump a new girl.

I ended up having to remove poor lacey as although there were no fights she was bullied the whole bonding time and was crying constantly.

I would be tempted to keep yours as a pair or get your two girls and bond them first.

if you want more pigs you could keep the upper level separate and have a pair of girls up there or another neutered couple

Hmm I'll keep an eye out for a lone female over the next couple of weeks. If nothing pops up then I'll take that as a sign that 2 pigs, 3 cats and a dog are enough animals lol!

Somebody on my facebook has 5 females needing new homes. They came to her from someone else who couldn't look after them and they weren't in the best state either... And they're beatiful. Oh dear lol! Should I swap cages so the 2 females have the 120cm cage and Alfonzo has the 100cm. Just temporarily of course. Once they're all bonded they'll go in the big cage. She'll also take her back if it doesn't work out between the 2 sows. Sound interesting? lol

I would be tempted to see if she would consideryou taking your girl to her that way if one pairing wasnt wotking you could try one of the others
