I hope someone can give me a bit of advice

Rodney seems to be bunged up. I noticed when I went to pick him up I ended up with poo all over my hand. I had a good look and sort of gently folding back the skin and there were big blobs of poo stuck inside.

He was neutered about 5 or 6 weeks ago - and it's only happened since then...could this be why? I did also pull out some white stuff? It's hard to describe!

Any ideas? I am going to ring the vets and see what they have to say too.

Dunno about white stuff but it sounds like he's impacted, where the poo gets stuck in the anal sack, nice! The pig may want to eat what you get out of there...it's usually their special poops that get stuck

Thanks Starla. I have just typed in Guinea Pig impaction and found some good sites.

I feel embarrassed to say I didn't know about it. But atleast now I know nothing is wrong with him, and I will just keep cleaning it out for him.

problem with my guinea pig Tilly

Hiya to everyone, my name is Tammy. I don't really know much about guinea pigs but I really think there is something wrong with Tilly. She has not been eating and drinking. She seems to look tired if that makes any sense at all. She is dragging her back legs and it is as if she can't stand properly. I have been to the vets but they said they don't really know what is the matter and just to keep eye on her. But I think this could be serious. Anybody know what this could be? :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I dont know why this has gone on this thread but you need to get another vet ASAP. Your vet obviously knows nothing about guineas. It could be a problem with her teeth, they may need clipping or filing at the back or she could have an infection, hard to say. What area are you in? maybe someone can recommend a vet or you could text Vedra at the CCT. I will find the number for you in a mo.

Your piggy needs to be fed by a plastic needless syringe (the type you give medicine to small children with). If she doesnt eat and drink, she will die quite quicly. Mush some of her pellet food in warm water until it is like a soup and syringe this. veg baby food is ok too. syringe a little water between mouthfuls. Offer very thinkly sliced veg and try to put in her mouth.

I will come back to you with the CCT number.

Vedra @ Cambridgeshire Cavy Trust 07721 026401 she will advise further but most importantly you need to find a good piggy vet.

Thanks very much for your quick reply. I live in the South Wales area. Tilly seems to be a bit lame on the one side, its like she cannot keep her balance

Possibly an ear infection? she will need antibiotics if so, baytril is usually given. Please do feed her or she may not last til morning...even if you have a teaspoon, use that.
At the top of the health and illness board is a list of recommended vets, have a look through and see if there is one in your area. I know another member here is in Wales, I will ask her which vet she uses.

I HAVE TRIED FEEDING HER BUT SHE WON'T TAKE ANYTHING. SHE IS JUST LAYING THERE MOTIONLESS,BARELY MOVING HER LEGS.HER FUR IS ALL PUFFED UP AND SHE IS TILTING HER HEAD RIGHT UP.NOT EVEN SQEAKING LIKE SHE NORMALLY WOULD

Hi tammy...like LJ said I think the best thing you can do is get her to an emergency vet asap...and try and get her to spoon/syringe feed...please let us know how you get on xx

If you text or ring the number for the CCT (cambridge cavy trust) Vedra might be able to help you.

I have just rang the vets he said it sounds like Tilly has had a heart attack. He said there is nothing I can do for her. So I have her in my arms to keep her warm like he said. He also said she would not make it throught he night. Thanks a lot!! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Tammy that's awful.....I don't really know what to say ...it seems very strange to me that your vet doesn't want to see her seeing as she is so very obviously suffering :'(...I just wish we could help.
love and hugs sammy xx
