Hi
My girl Mabel is coming up for 5/6 years old. She is losing weight but eating fine and seems happy. Poops and wee is fine. However she has started to assert her dominance with my other piggy more than usual and I’ve noticed she is constantly licking/eating her poops.
Wondered about trying probiotics. If I sprinkle on food is it ok for both to eat or would I have to feed separately? Or is there any easier way to give it to her? I’m going to book vets too.
Thanks very much.

Hi

Probiotics are fine for both to eat or - if you want to add some to the water to drink. In the second case, your piggies need to be good drinkers and you need to clean your bottle daily since probiotics promote the fast growth of algae.

If she is losing weight, it would however be more helpful to offer her hay based top up feed but in a pinch you can also offer her bowl of mushed pellets (better would be recovery formula or a mix of the two) away from their her mate once or twice daily daily.

All the best at the vets. It can however be difficult to work out what is going on. Issues with nutrient absorption and processing are not at all uncommon in older piggies (or older humans) as their organs and bodies are slowing down and no longer working optimally.
