Hello everyone.

I'm still learning about good nutrition through these wonderful guides and taking notes. I also check on them before going to the supermarket. And I have some notions of what is right and what is wrong about diet. However, I wanted a guide that I could print and, together with the guides on this forum, learn about good nutrition.

Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets
Seeds - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Is this a good guide to print? Of course I would make some modifications, as in the case of carrots and tomatoes, which the guide says you can feed them almost every day, but I know you can't.
If anyone has a better guide that I can print out, that would also be a great help.

My boar is having a bit of trouble eating vegetables, as he has never eaten them in his life with the previous owner. At the moment, he is just accepting Chayote (at first he was accepting everything, but now he is like, "No!").
I've tried several different allowed vegetables. If anyone also has any good tips for a vegetable he might come to love, I'm open to listening. I've tried every color of bell pepper.

The four veggies which can be fed daily are
Cilantro, lettuce, bell pepper and cucumber.
Anything else should be fed in moderation and 1-2 times per week. High calcium items such as kale, parsley, spinach are once a week only.

Does he live with another piggy?
Aside from the fact a piggy always needs companionship from another piggy, they learn what is safe from watching their cage mate.
Also, they are individuals and some just won’t like some things no matter how many times you try!

Hello,
I tried cilantro, every bell pepper color, and cucumber already, but he isn't interested in either, even after trying for days. People told me lettuce wasn't good because it could cause diarrhea. Is there some specific kind of lettuce I should buy?

His previous owner said he only used to eat pellets and some hay; he used human vitamin C to replace vegetables.

He is on antibiotics since his previous owner got him very sick (tilt head, urinary infection, malnutrition, and mites). He is in quarantine until he can be with a companion.

At the moment, what he likes most daily are pellets (which I have drastically reduced since I saw it could be fed only one tablespoon), corn husk, hay with marigolds, hibiscus and dandelion, and also chayote.

I don't know if it helps, but here is his story:

Tilted Head, which vet should I trust?

Since then, I've been trying to improve his diet, but it is becoming a little bit hard when it comes to vegetables.

Lettuce can be given every day. Any lettuce can be used except iceberg.

All you can do is keep trying with veg. There is no magic answer to make him eat them - it doesn’t sound like he knows if is safe or what they are yet so he needs time.

Yes Pellets should only be one tablespoon a day. The thing now is that they are essentially the same as giving a child sweets - that is all they will want and won’t want to eat their veg.

He is ok with just hay and any fresh grass you may be able to get for him. Hay and grass needs to be the main part of their diet.

My Rosie was also very picky when she first came to me, only seemed to accept carrot.

Give your piggy some time! Rosie also took some time to adjust, now she would level my entire fridge in a matter of seconds if she could.

I'm sorry about your little one's health issues, wishing him much health.

Hopefully once he gets a cage mate he will learn that vegetables are good. He is making good progress and has a very trusting relationship with you.

Alright, I will buy lettuce for him. I checked last week, and we had curly lettuce, iceberg lettuce and purple lettuce. It is good to know iceberg lettuce is a no no! So thank you for telling me! I will check carefully once in supermarket this week.
For a miracle, he ate coriander today! With chayote. Is it alright to give him chayote everyday?

Thank you again!

I hope Momo becomes like your Rosie soon! Thank you!

His antibiotics course will end up before the mites ivermectin medicine, then I will wait two weeks apart to be safe! By the end of/or half July, he will be with a friend!

Thank you for your help in all the threads I made! Since I joined this community I am feeling very secure in raising Momo!

It is a vegetable, very known in Brazil. For a while Momo is liking it daily. I got some very detailed nutritional information about it (I just don't know if they are right...?)

I researched and some people told it was okay to give it daily, but as always, I want to make sure I am not giving a bad food for him.

Here it is the link of the nutritional information per 100g (I don't understand much if it is good or bad for a piggy):

I'm afraid it’s not something I'm aware of - as a uk based forum - so I can’t say whether it’s safe to feed at all or safe daily
