Hi!

So my 1 year old sow Milky has just had surgery to remove quite a large bladder stone. I'm now extremely worried of reoccurrence as she's still very young she's only just turned one!
I want to prevent it as much as I can so I just want to know the best things to feed her once she's better and recovered, she's being very picky in her recovery!
I'll start giving her bottled water, cutting back on kale etc. But I want to get it right so I want to know ideally the best things to give her daily still I'm reading up on alot including the Cal:Phos ratio on guinea lynx but I just would like to be told.
Thanks!
Courtney

I’m sorry to hear she had a stone.

Most calcium comes into the diet via pellets and drinking water. Ensuring you feed no more than one tablespoon of pellets per pig per day and filtering water is recommended.
It is possible to go pellet free or if not totally free, then feed less and then you can get a bit more leeway elsewhere in the diet. I only give pellets 2-3 times a week.
Bear in mind that cutting calcium down too low can also have a negative effect and lead to bladder related issues - the balance is still wrong, it’s just wrong in the other direction. It’s about finding that balance that works.

Don’t feed high calcium veggies such as kale, spinach, parsley often - no more than once a week and only in small amounts.

Unfortunately though some stones are genetic and there is obviously nothing you can do about that.

We don’t recommend going by cal:phos ratios as they don’t tend to take the whole diet into consideration so things can be wrong before you even start
