Hi I am intending to take ownership of guinea pigs - 2 girls hopefully - from my friend where there has been an unplanned pregnancy in her pig community. I will have to get a hutch and keep them in the garden though I know they may have to make a move to the garage in the winter. What I am after is a hutch on short legs and a run attached to it. My problem is the issue of ramps. I dont want to get a double level hutch because the ramps seem very steep but i cannot seem to get what i want. My friend doesnt like ramps but others seem to say that pigs dont mind them. I dont know what to think. Can anyone give me some direction ? Very many thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome to the forum, you will find the info you need here from all our friendly members. I've used ramps (steep and unsteep) and haven't had a problem. I have heard that some piggies can't use ramps though, so might be worth leaving them for the moment if you can. My piggies are indoors in home made cages so can't offer much more help. I hope someone else comes along soon and can give you the information you are after

I had the same concern with my piggies in a 2 tier hutch.. we put a barrier on the side so they couldn't fall off and after a week they managed it.. We had to coax them up it at first but then they realised. I am selling it now though as I want them inside due to my aches and pains ! x

Hello and welcome to the forum! Have you thought about looking at chicken coops as an alternative to a hutch? A lot of them have a house section with a run that doesn't have a ramp. Or you could by a single level hutch with a run to attach?

I advise anyone who has a ramp to have some sort of side fitted for safety . I use ramp tunnels too .

Hi and :wel:!

I have the rose cottage which has a ramp. The ramp is a bit Steep but you can get ramp tunnels too. My two sows are brilliant at using it!
