After a few days of being in complete shock, apologies for posting this here but have to get it out of my system!

My husband and I had been trying for a baby since September. In December we decided to wait as on 20th I got offered an amazing new job and handed my notice in with my current employer.

Christmas day, we've all had a few drinks and I realize I'm a week late and decide to do a test to which, I'm pregnant!

I should be elated but my husband and I are simply in complete shock. I am only a few weeks gone (I think!) but am due to start my new job in February. I just wish I felt happier! Perhaps it will sink in a bit more when the doctors reopen. Any comments welcome, thank you mainly for letting me get this off my chest.

congratulations :(|)
what fantastic news for you! I expect you're feeling a little shocked because you'd put the plans on hold for a bit due to having no luck earlier in the year and now have a few things to think about like your new job and what to do hence not feeling as elated as you think you should be. Try talking it over with Hubby or us to put your mind at rest and then i think you'll be getting more excited and it'll feel more real ;-) Alyson x x

Congratulations to you both :(|) I am sure your new job will understand that you will be leaving them for a while to have a baby. You have came to the right place to talk we are all hear to listen anytime you need us x

Congratulations to you both!xx>>> thats great news :)
can you send a little baby dust our way, were desperate for a bambino:(|)

Thank you for your lovely posts. I know it's ridiculous but I feel like I've let my new employer down despite the fact when I accepted I had no idea!

I then also feel guilty for not feeling over the moon when I know lots of people who are longing for a little one. I assume this is a) the shock and my husband looking petrified and b) my hormones being all over the place. This will be our first child (not counting our little boars who are my babies!)

Any tips or advice welcome and I thank you again for your wonderful support. I'm so glad I posted as I've been feeling really low about this. Xx

Congratulations :)
It must be shocking for you to happen so quickly too. Alot of couples can take months or even years to fall pregnant.
There must be something in the air though, I know of 6 people in the last few weeks who are all expecting too :)
x

Congratulations! These things happen when you least expect it.

I found out I was pregnant only a few months after getting a permanent post. Don't worry, they can't treat you any differently because you're pregnant, that'd be illegal.

It's the best Christmas present ever!

aww congratulations to you both, and to everyone else who has managed to create a miracle.

Dont worry about work, like someone said you cant be treated any different and if you are they are on well dodgy ground as i think you will have more rights than anyone.

Its fate that this has happened now, and its great news, so relax about work and just enjoy x>>

So many people having babies, its great, i wish it was me, but sadly its too late for me i met my oh too late, at least i got half of the deal x:{

Congratulations:))

It will feel like a shock at first, but once you have had your first scan and see the baby, the apprehension will start to lead to excitement:))

Congratulations! I found out the day before starting a new job that I was expecting so I know how you feel!

Congratulations - I hope that you will enjoy your baby to come once you have digested it all!

Congratulations to you both! That is fantastic news! Don't worry about your new employer! Enjoy the news! That's a brilliant start to a new year for you both.

Congratulations xx>>>
Some things are just mean't to be :) I'm sure your new employer will understand if you explain xx

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate it. Doctors tomorrow so fingers crossed. X

Congratulations on your news. I have not long found out I was pregnant with number 2 this month. That was a huge shock. I am still on maternity leave for number 1!

I am due to go back in Feb for 6 months now before going back on maternity leave with number 2. I have not told work yet so I am not sure how they will take the news!

Hope it all goes well at the doctors and it will seem so real when you go for the first scan.

Awww congratulations!

I'm sure you will feel good about it soon, I have 3 children. 1 and 3 were surprise pregnancies. but they are the best things that have ever happened to me. besieds the piglets LOL #3 baby was particually shocking because I was done having babies and had got rid of all my baby things! (5 year gap)

Anyway congratulations and heres to the next chapter in your life!

Maybe if you read about your maternity leave rights, etc, you might feel more at ease. You need to tell your emplyer by law within 15 weeks of your Expected Due Date (EDD), which is a while away. I decided to be very honest and open with my boss when I found out I was pregnant but now wish I hadn't as I kept changing my mind about how I wanted to come back to work, etc...

Also, when I found out I was pregnant, I also found out I got the dates completely wrong (I thought you counted from 1st day of MISSED period, not of LAST period), so instead of celebrating, OH gave me a bl**dy row and I spent the morning researching maternity leave details on the internet... malletheadmalletheadmallethead derrrrrr!

Havind said that, I'm now a very happy mommy, I work 3 days a week (I did lose my responsibility role, though, as junior as it was, as it's against company policy to have part-timers is higher positions) and I wouldn't change it for the world!x)x)x)
